Daily prices of the same symbol, with date, open, high, low and close.
Where do I get daily prices?
- On TradingView, open the same symbol on a daily chart covering the period of your trades.
- Open the chart menu and choose Export chart data…
- Save it as CSV. Any other source with date, open, high, low and close works too.

Check
No file at hand? The two samples use synthetic sample data: made-up prices of a made-up symbol (SYNTH) and the trades of two simple rules. They are not real market data.
How it works
You load the list of trades your strategy made in a backtest, and daily prices of the same symbol. Your computer then runs three checks, right in this page.
- Beats buy-and-hold? Did your trades make more money than simply buying the same symbol on the first day and holding it until the last trade? Both pay the same trading costs.
- Beats random luck? We keep how long you held each trade and how much you put in, and place the same trades on random days of the same prices, 1,000 times. If random trades often did as well, your result could be luck. It passes only if fewer than 5 in 100 random tries did as well.
- Survives higher costs? Real trading costs (commission and slippage) are often higher than in a backtest. We price your trades again at 0.25% per buy and per sell. It passes if you still make money.
🟢 all three pass · 🟡 one or two pass · 🔴 none pass · ⚪ add daily prices for the full verdict.
A red verdict does not mean you lost money. It means the result is not good enough to trust. Whether you made or lost money is shown on its own line, above the three checks.
Under "Show details" (or in Pro) you also see: the same trades in 1,000 random orders, to show how deep the worst drop could have been; the profit year by year and how much of it came from the biggest trades; and the profit at three cost levels.
A pass is not a promise. A strategy can pass all three checks on old data and still lose money from now on. With fewer than 30 trades, or less than two years, the page warns you: there is too little to judge.
